Gritty feeling on my kitten's ribs?

The other night, our Australian Sheppard mauled our 2 month old kitten over and now when i pick him up, there's this gritty horrible feeling on his ribs. He seems to be alright but it seems like it hurts him when we pick him up and i'm worried
